“Montage – The Art of MCC’s Faculty and Staff”

“Montage – The Art of MCC’s Faculty and Staff” and a unique African art display are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays now through Feb. 28 in MCC’s Instruction North Building. Admission is free.

Featured artists include Adjunct Art Instructor Debbie Bell; Adjunct Art Instructor Julia Blair; Computer Information Systems Instructor Dr. James Brown; Diane Clise, wife of MCC Industrial Technology Instructor Chuck Clise; Adjunct Math Instructor Bev Gates; Dean of Arts & Sciences Gary Hauck; Tutor Amber Jaramillo; Visual Arts Coordinator Carolyn Johnson; Adjunct Art Instructor James Kusmierski; Director of Financial Aid Becky Powell; Custodian Phyllis Pollock; and Recreation Program Coordinator Chris Stander.

In addition, an exhibit featuring works by artists from Namibia, Africa, is on loan to MCC from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, and is open for viewing during the “Montage” exhibit. MCC Dean of Arts & Sciences Gary Hauck said the one-of-a-kind display features authentic African artistry.

“This particular artwork graphically portrays the spirit of Africa, and the reverence and homage the Namibian people have for those who have preceded them in death. It skillfully combines the media of photography, drawing and painting along with special effects,” Hauck said. “The display also includes brilliant woodcuts that are typical of this region of Africa.”

Carousel by Chris Stander

MCC Recreation Program Coordinator Chris Stander’s photo of the carousel at Van Andel Museum recently was selected to illustrate the month of January in the 2010 Grand Rapids Life Calendar. The photo is included in “Montage – The Art of MCC’s Faculty and Staff,” which runs through Feb. 28 in MCC’s Instruction North Building.
