MCC offers more than $65,000 in scholarships for 2010-11Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).

Montcalm Community College is accepting applications until 3 p.m. March 2 for 117 scholarships valued at $65,075 for the 2010-11 school year.

“Scholarships are an important way in which the Foundation gives back to the community,” said MCC Director of Institutional Advancement Terry Smith. “Community support allows the MCCF to have a greater capacity to help students fund their college education.

“This is especially beneficial as our changing economy requires access to post-secondary education and training for all people after high school,” Smith said.

It skillfully combines the media of photography, drawing and painting along with special effects,” Hauck said. “The display also includes brilliant woodcuts that are typical of this region of Africa.”

MCC’s M-TEC hosts Michigan’s First Gentleman Dan MulhernUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).

Montcalm Community College hosts a presentation by Michigan’s First Gentleman Dan Mulhern from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 28 at the M-TEC in Greenville.

During his presentation, “Change: Leading Across Trembling Ground,” Mulhern speaks to the everyday leader and offers strategies to improve leadership skills, achieve results and gain greater professional satisfaction. The presentation is free, but registration is required by calling the M-TEC at 616-754-7706. A limited number of boxed lunches are available for $5.25 each and must be ordered when registering for this presentation.

As Michigan’s first “First Gentleman,” Mulhern is a champion for the cause of state volunteerism and community service, as chairman of the Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC). He is an accomplished leadership coach and organizational development expert and is using those skills to guide the Office of Great Workplace Development, whose aim is to make the State government a “great place to do great work.” He has similarly taken on the lead role in promoting the practices of Michigan’s companies recognized as “great companies to work for.”

MCC Director of Workforce Development Leslie Wood recently heard Mulhern speak.

“I was energized by his approach to the belief that everyone can impact their community by realizing their leadership strengths,” Wood said. “We are all leaders and we all have the potential to use our strengths to help our communities grow and thrive in today’s uncertain economy.”

Mulhern is a prolific public speaker and recently published a book titled “Everyday Leadership: Getting Results in Business, Politics and Life.” This book illuminates leadership lessons that help everyday people lead better every day. He shares his personal experiences as he writes about real people as leaders. In his stories, Mulhern explores and discusses both successful strategies and various misconceptions he has observed in leadership practice, and offers his thoughts and ideas on how to negotiate the various challenges leadership can present. He also writes and publishes a weekly e-column called “Reading for Leading” that stimulates the thought and development of leaders around the country. “Reading for Leading” is available free of charge to anyone with an interest in leadership. Visit www.michigan.gov/firstgentleman  or e-mail FirstGentleman@Michigan.gov to subscribe to the newsletter.

Mulhern’s presentation concludes with a book signing, and books will be available for purchase during the event.

MCC’s M-TEC is located at 1325 Yellow Jacket Drive, Greenville.
